Matthew Halsall is one of the UK's leading figures in jazz. As a composer, producer, trumpeter, DJ and founder of Gondwana Records, Matthew has become a cultural catalyst for modern music, combining his love of spiritual jazz, deep electronica and crafted songwriting across a series of albums.

His Spiritland monthly residency continues where he'll be exploring his musical world in breadth and depth.

R2 Records label head honcho and master selector of twenty-five years' experience Kyri is one of our favourite DJs and we're thrilled that he's back to deliver another of his trademark Friday night Spiritland selections.

If anything like last time, Kyri's Spiritland set will draw on a wide spectrum of soulful boogie, house influences, disco, jazz and funk.

Spiritland Screen: Boyz N The Hood


Our cinematic love in with Everyman Cinema King's Cross continues, with a monthly screening of some of our favourite films - next up is Boyz N' The Hood.

The tale of Tre, Doughboy and Ricky that marked a turning point in Black American cinema and put John Singleton on the map. Along with the Hughes Brothers' Menace II Society, this film captured the realities of inner city America with a soundtrack straight from the golden age of hip hop. Ice Cube, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Laurence Fishburne star.

Record label boss, radio broadcaster and lifelong soul aficionado Ralph Tee is here for a Friday night of upbeat, smiles for miles music. His knowledge of and passion for sharing the rare grooves is second to none.

Ralph has been a club DJ since the 1970s & broadcasting on radio since the 1980s, with deep roots in the UK soul scene.

Micky Browne


Micky's laid-back Balearic sets are always a treat, but this time he heads up from his beachside town with a record box brimful of nothing but breezy, feel-good Saturday nighters. Micky Browne – toast of the coast.

A much loved member of the Spiritland team, Vincent lives and breathes quality music when he's not cooking up a storm here. Percussive global grooves sourced from far and wide are at the top his musical menu.

Chal Ravens


A music journalist and radio host with an omnivorous taste and a particular interest in the outer limits of electronic music. Chal's writing on club culture and experimental electronica appears regularly in Pitchfork, The Wire, FACT and The Guardian. The selections on her Tuesday night Red Bull Radio show, Top Flight, are testament to her wildly eclectic musical taste.

Magnetic Soul


A DJ and record collector with twenty years' experience under his belt, Steve Brockerton repurposes obscure disco, soul and balearic oddities.

We're big fans of Magnetic Soul's deep and soulful sets so this promises to be another excellent night. Get involved.

Rónán (Inner Totality)

Digging deeper than deep is what Maxwell is all about. The man who started the engaging Diggers Dozen series, the vinyl gems that he unearths are what makes his selections so special. Listen out for rare caribbean grooves in particular.

Globetrotting DJ and producer Lorenzo-Giulio Morresi, aka Seven People, returns for a Friday night session of all things jazz, cosmic, cinematic & electronic.



Fernando Pulichino, a man of many musical hats. Not only is he a producer and DJ but also an accomplished musician and songwriter. As a DJ he's played all the big name clubs and festivals you'd care to name in the UK, Ibiza, Berlin and beyond.

His original productions meanwhile have found homes at respected labels such as Late Night Tales, Futureboogie and Leng. One can be assured that Fernando will play a similarly discerning set.

Mark Limb


It's blessed bank holiday Sunday with Electric Disco's Mark Limb in control of the Spiritland sound, with something for everyone.

As per usual, he'll be walking the golden balearic tightrope – blissfully zoning out those in need of an easy one, while also pushing through an upbeat undercurrent for those on a Sunday session.

DJ Okapi


Based in Maboneng, downtown Johannesburg, Okapi runs the record store and reissue label Afrosynth Records.

He has also co-compiled collections of South African music for Rush Hour, Soundway and Cultures of Soul, so this promises to be a very special evening of syncopated drum work, rhythm and bass.

Bill Ambrose


Broadcaster, producer and esteemed record selector Bill Ambrose checks in to Spiritland for this midweek listening session.

Spiritland Legends: Herbie Hancock


Our Legends series continues with an all-night celebration of pioneering jazz-funk multi-instrumentalist Herbert Jeffrey Hancock.

With a career spanning six decades, Hancock took the experience of his early days with Miles and Blue Note into new jazz-funk realms, taking a leading role in bringing the vocoder and keytar into popular music culture while he was at it.

As his career continues through to present day, his body of work inspires successive generations of musicians, particularly in the world of electronic sampling.

The music will be curated by our sharp-dressed friend Jean-Claude: Hancock enthusiast, DJ and head of If Music. Come and see what our resident Herbie-head hunts out.

David Triana


A familiar face at Spiritland, our Colombiano friend David – of thumping house label Downpitch Recordings – returns to the Spiritland sound system for a Saturday night session of worldwide beats, with a natural focus on the latin sounds of his homelands.
