Jimmy K Tel (Sancho Panza)
Jimmy K-Tel is, along with Matt Brown, the guiding force behind one of London's most beloved party crews, Sancho Panza. Their warehouse events, boat parties and legendary system at the Notting Hill Carnival have all been powered by Jim and Matt's deep love for music of all flavours. Come and hear Jimmy K-Tel dip into the lower BPMs of his record collection on a Friday night.
Bill Brewster presents Tribal Rites launch party
The DJ's DJ, journalist's journalist and record collector's record collector Bill Brewster is releasing a deeply personal compilation charting his life in music.
'Tribal Rites' touches on post-punk, dub, hiphop and house and is a musical autobiography built from the furthest reaches of Bill's extensive record collection. Come down and celebrate the launch of this sprawling mix with a night of musical mischief at the home of good music.
Sheffield's Solid State aka Richard Hardcastle is a disco authority with an ear for the ultimate head-nodder. His work has lit up the underground since 1988, both on the dancefloor and on vinyl. We welcome his return to Spiritland for this Friday night session. Image by James Reilly.
If you watched Master of None recently and thought 'whoever's picking the music for this knows their stuff' - you're right. It was Zach Cowie aka Turquoise Wisdom, who joins us from his LA home, bringing the cream of his record collection with him. Expect a Sunday night musical odyssey.
Witchdoctor’s Son Album Release party
Matt Temple - from the South African jazz vinyl reissue label Matsuli Music - returns to Spiritland to launch Witchdoctor’s Son. This forgotten gem of the South African jazz diaspora features Johnny Dyani and Okay Temiz fusing deep roots and new routes from a 1976 Istanbul studio session. Available now for the first time since Yonca Records originally released only 1000 copies in Turkey, this album has remained an elusive and sought after landmark in South African exile Johnny Dyani’s discography.
In addition to a full debut of the album and heavy doses of deep spiritual jazz from the African diaspora, Matt will showcase a number of his favourite African recordings from 45 and LPs.
Maxwell Pastor is the man behind Digger's Dozen, a supremely simple concept - a group of heavyweight record collectors play their dozen favourite records - no reissues, no compilations - that's it. Maxwell returns to Spiritland for an evening of genre-spanning open-minded DJing.
Japanese Whisky Tasting with Dave Broom
Dave Broom is one of the world's foremost Whisky writers with a distinctive style that is both deeply knowledgable and disarmingly casual, with over a dozen books to his name - he's also the curator of our extensive whisky list here at Spiritland. You can read more on his work here.
His latest book is 'The Way of Whisky - A journey around Japanese Whisky' - an odyssey into the world of Japanese whisky based on his travels, and to mark the publication we're hosting a night of talk, drinking and celebration on Sunday 26th November.
Come and join us for a night of Japanese whisky tasting with a paired music selection hosted by Dave, where we'll be enjoying five of his favourite whiskies from this fantastic production region.
Doors are at 5pm, the talks start at 6pm and we'll be carrying on late with a deep musical Japanese selection courtesy of Nick Luscombe. Kampai!
