Spiritland Legends: Herbie Hancock

30/08/2018 20:00 - 01:00

Our Legends series continues with an all-night celebration of pioneering jazz-funk multi-instrumentalist Herbert Jeffrey Hancock.

As his career continues through to present day, his body of work inspires successive generations of musicians, particularly in the world of electronic sampling.

The music will be curated by our sharp-dressed friend Jean-Claude: Hancock enthusiast, DJ and head of If Music.

Come and see what our resident Herbie-head hunts out.

Flying Mojito Bros

03/09/2018 19:00 - 23:30

Two disco bandoleros pioneering their own route through the great electronic wilderness.

With their boots firmly planted in dusty seventies sunsets, their panamerican productions take cosmic country funk to club and festival dancefloors via NYC latin disco and baggy acid house.

Think the first summer of love meeting the second – Crosby, Stills and Nash at the Haçienda, The Doors at Shoom, The Orb at Woodstock.

At Spiritland, they'll be carving a path between the country and latino forms of soul, funk and disco.

Finally, the long-awaited Freddie Mercury biopic hits the screen – and we're teaming up with Everyman Cinema in King's Cross for a release-day screening.

After a turbulent production history with close involvement from remaining members of Queen, and a director's chair which saw both Bryan Singer and Dexter Fletcher in it at different points, it's here – and it's good. Rami Malik turns in a stellar performance as rock music's greatest ever front man.

(Dir: Bryan Singer, 2018)

Spiritland Screen: Saturday Night Fever & Afterparty

Buy tickets / 09/11/2018 21:00 - 01:00

'Where do you go when the party is over...?' November's partnership with Everyman Cinema kicks us into party gear. Grittier than you remember it, this is the straight, Brooklyn end of disco, based on an article by Nick Cohn for New York magazine. John Travolta became an icon as Tony Manero, and disco mutated once more.

We'll be screening the original R-Rated release, followed by an afterparty at a secret spot we know.

(Dir: Albert Magnoli, 1984)

Spiritland Screen: Purple Rain & 100% Prince Afterparty

Buy tickets / 13/12/2018 21:00 - 01:00

A late December screening of Prince's best film, followed up with a late night, all-Prince afterparty in a secret spot we know (not Spiritland...) Prince is The Kid, making his way through Minneapolis music industry with Apollonia by his side and nemesis Maurice Day hot on his (high) heels.

The screening is followed by an exclusive afterparty with 100% Prince action until 1:00am.
