Skinshape

  • Eclectic

  • Reggae/Dub

Skinshape is the project of British musician Will Dorey. The sound has roots in many genres, including 1960s-70s funk, soul, reggae, psychedelic rock, afrobeat and folk.

Skinshape grew out of a love for old music and the way it sounded. Initially Will experimented with samples (especially drum breaks) to create instrumental hip-hop/trip-hop tracks, but then later started to play around with tape machines as a means to create his own 'samples'. This process gave birth to Skinshape, with all elements being recorded by Will since the first self-titled album, released in 2014. He released his second album 'Oracolo' in 2015, and in 2017 he released his third album 'Life & Love'.

Aside from the Skinshape project, Dorey was bassist for the band Palace from 2014-2017, and also runs a reggae label called Horus Records, based in North London.

Sonic Archeology: A Journey Through Archival & Recorded Sound.

Free entry event. If you want to be sure of a spot, book a table via hello@spiritland.com.

At this second meeting, we are joined by custodians of our shared aural/oral histories Michele Banal and James Knight from the esteemed – and hugely vital – British Library Sound Archive.

Through Spiritland's monolithic sound system, they will rouse within you deep cultural memories you didn’t know existed as they play spectral field recordings of archival folk, traditional music and recorded discs from around the British Isles, the known world and beyond.

HERESY and Spiritland tokens of worship – collaborative tees and slipmats – are available online and, if you want to save on shipping, at the event (including a re-stock of the slipmats and all tee sizes).

Mr Bongo bring eclectic and unexpected Brazilian, Latin, African, Jazz, Soul, Reggae and Psychedelic flavours to the dance-floor with a seemingly bottomless stock of weird and wonderful selections.

They join us at Spiritland King's Cross for a joyous Friday night after curating our album club for the week previous.
