Steve Cole & CJ

Steve Cole and CJ Willcox are Soul Affair.
Influenced by pirate radio and the buoyant underground soul scenes of the 1980s, Steve and CJ began their own DJ journeys - Steve hosting a soul night at art school at time when musical choice was otherwise limited to rave or grunge, CJ began spinning with the infamous Dr Bob Jones at his influential club The Surgery.
Shortly after meeting in a record shop, the pair launched the first incarnation of Soul Affair in 1995 at Hoxton's Blue Note club - possibly the hippest spot in the capital city at the time. Sunday Soul Affair ran weekly on Sunday afternoons until the venue's sad closure in 1998 and specialised in mid-tempo, rare groove, two-step and modern soul.
Following the closure of the Blue Note, Steve and CJ held residencies at nights such as True Spirit, Jazz Cafe, Point 101 and Ronnie Scotts. Along the way, the duo forged a new sound for their parties that celebrated everything soulful and deeply funky. More recently, Soul Affair relaunched at The Burlington Arms in Mayfair and has been running very successfully for the last five years. Steve and CJ continue to DJ at various soul weekenders, festivals and Ibiza.

Nev Cottee – River’s Edge album playback
14/07/2019 KC
- Americana
- Downtempo
- Folk
Nev Cottee is back with a fourth solo album... "After all these years it feels like I finally know what I'm doing. For some reason I had this image of the River's Edge in my head - a promised land where I wanted to be."
The classic songwriting continues with lush soundscape production once again provided by the great Mason Neely (Wilco/Edwyn Collins). Long time friends contributing their unique skills include legendary guitarist Nick McCabe (The Verve), pedal steel virtuoso Chris Hillman (Ethan Johns/Billy Bragg) & James Walbourne (The Pretenders/The Rails) to name a few. Cellos and violins combine with vintage synths to create Nev's now familiar sonic landscape.
Inspired by the late Scott Walker, Neil Young and the aforementioned Waits, River's Edge is a unique sounding record blending beautifully-crafted songs with the cinema scope production values of Spiritualized and Morricone. It's a nod to the mythical Canyons of LA but through a very English lens. "There is a pastoral quality to the songs on this album 'Local Hero', ' Hello Stranger' 'Scattered Leaves' they're all about the hidden places I love discovering in the English countryside."
"I want to be unlike anything else out there at the moment. I don't see anyone doing what I do. I'm on my own. Good."
With DJ support from WONDERFULSOUND's Miles Copeland and Ceri Preston.
