An Unbound Night Out: How Do You Write About Music?
We are proud to announce a new bi-monthly night of culture, music and conversation with the iconoclastic publishers, Unbound.
Each night we will gather to discuss a particular question or idea followed by music and drinking. For the first instalment Unbound authors Tot Taylor (The Story of John Nightly) and Martine McDonagh (Narcissism for Beginners) are joined by the Times chief rock critic and author Will Hodgkinson, journalist and author Laura Barton and journalist and author Barney Hoskyns to discuss the question of How Do You Write About Music?

Jackson Mico is co-founder of Pique-nique Records, and his sets explore spiritual jazz, 70’s Brazilian pop, soul, through to House and upfront sounds from London, New York, his homeland of Australia and anywhere else. The vibe is soulful, cutting edge, warm and always rooted in jazz.
Ian Dewhirst’s Mastercuts Without Boundaries
With 45 years at the sharp end of dance music, and an untouchable heritage in music that stretches back to a residency at the Wigan Casino during the golden age of Northern Soul, Ian is one of the UK’s premier musical authorities, also creating the influential 'Mastercuts' series. Ian explores his collection throughout his bi-monthly residency at Spiritland, touching on pretty much the complete spectrum of black and dance music from 1965 to 1990.
Mr Bongo presents Arthur Verocai half-speed master playback
As part of RSD 2017 Mr Bongo release a very special edition of Arthur Verocai’s seminal 1972 self-titled classic LP – half-speed mastered at Abbey Road by Miles Showell. Spiritland are delighted to host the exclusive first playback, with DJ support from David ‘Mr Bongo’ Buttle, Mark GV Taylor, Graham Luckhurst and Gareth Stephens.
Guy Dermosessian (Kalakuta Soul Records)
From Beirut to Germany, Guy Dermosessian from Bochum-based Kalahuta Soul Records is one of the deepest collectors out there. We're delighted to welcome him to Spiritland for his debut visit on a Saturday night touching on disco, soul, Turkish funk and rare global sounds
Derek’s Island Discs with Count Skylarkin & Wrongtom
Count Skylarkin' shared numerous DJ booths, dancefloors and pints with his friend and mentor, the much missed DJ Derek. Derek's family has left the Count a priceless and precious memento - the entirety of his music collection on MiniDisc. These discs have travelled the country, igniting dancefloors and shebeens for years, filled with reggae, dub, ska, rock & roll, swing, jive and more. Count Skylarkin' will be playing them and talking about the legacy of Derek's life along with friend, DJ and reggae authority Wrongtom.

BBC Radio 3 present Record Review live from Spiritland
This year Record Store Day falls on Saturday 22 April. 2017 is also the sixtieth birthday year of BBC Radio 3’s Record Review. So on 22 April the programme and presenter Andrew McGregor will be celebrating RSD 2017 by leaving their Broadcasting House studio and broadcasting live from Spiritland.
The programme will feature Building a Library on Mahler’s epic ‘Resurrection’ symphony, as well a round-up of some of the latest releases -- plus we'll be playing select releases on our Kuzma turntable. Tickets are free but very limited and available from 9.30am, Monday 20th March.
Jeff Mills ‘Planets’ album launch in 5.1 surround sound – plus Toby Frith

Jeff Mills’ work has always been at the intersection between music, contemporary art, pop culture and design and always close to the field of science fiction.
On April 7th, Jeff Mills will release his new album, Planets on Axis Records. An album and live performance describing the nine planets of our Solar System, inspired by the 1918 classical score of Gustav Holst’s 'The Planets'. The score was arranged by Sylvain Griotto, performed by the Porto Philharmonic Orchestra in June 2015, conducted by Christophe Mangou, mixed by Jonathan Allen at Abbey Road Studios, London and mastered by Darcy Proper at Wisseloord Studios, Holland. It is released in HD surround 5.1 for Blu-Ray Audio, and stereo for CD and vinyl formats.
