Markey Funk returns to Spiritland for his first trip since 2018. Jerusalem-based musician/producer/DJ and vinyl enthusiast, Markey Funk has established himself as Israel's top raw and way-out grooves specialist both – in the studio and behind the decks. Starting off as a hip-hop and funk DJ in the early 2000s, his musical palette has grown constantly wider and deeper throughout the years, embracing everything between psychedelia, garage rock, folk, early electronic and library music from around the world.

Alongside collecting records and playing them for crowds around the country and abroad, Markey has been writing and producing his own music: from hip hop beats, through fully sample-based debut album and remixes for a wide variety of local and international artists, to music for short animation and documentary films, and much much more. Following the release of his second LP “Instinct” in 2016, he has launched the boutique 7'' imprint Delights.

Supper Club with Susana Villasuso & DJ Oscar Arroyo

  • Supper Club

On Tuesday 6th November, we host Mexican chef Susana Villasuso to ours for an indulgent evening of dining and drinking.

Chef, recipe developer and food stylist from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Susana currently resides in the southwest suburbs of London. We'll let her tell her tale in her own words:

"I went to culinary school in Mexico. This experience opened my eyes to the food world, technique and way of working in the kitchen.

The food I like to eat and make is very inspired by my cultural roots and my home country, the colour and vibrancy of the food as well as those humble ingredients that make it to the everyday tables in the homes of Mexico.

After experiences working mainly in catering and living in London and New York where I took for the first time Food Styling courses, I started an account on instagram @Holasus and my blog Life Limon Y Sal, where I share my own recipes where I like to mix a bit of the old and new of Mexican food in my own way and always using fresh ingredients.

Since then I have been working as a recipe developer for 10 years now, where I finally feel that I have found my calling. Living abroad makes me long for the flavours of home, the spices, the fresh chilies, tortillas and salsas to name a few, my debut book Sobremesa will bring all of this to your home."

These dining nights always sell out fast so don't hang about!

  • Goth

It’s finally here - Simon Price’s magnum opus Curepedia has arrived, and we couldn’t let the moment pass without a night of unabashed Cure worship.

Over the past five decades, The Cure have created a musical mythology and canonical body of work that straddles the worlds of music, film and art, which continues to resonate with audiences around the world with their irreverent, defiant and mythical spirit.

On 9 November, White Rabbit will publish Curepedia: An A-Z of The Cure - an encyclopaedic biography of The Cure written by one of the UK’s greatest music writers Simon Price - the definitive guide to the band’s past and present, painting a comprehensive portrait of the band’s inimitable legacy, politics, image and their rich cultural influences.

Curepedia offers a complete portrait of the canon behind The Cure, examining and rifling through miscellaneous trivia, detailed analysis of discography, films, concerts and appearances, biographies of the band members past and present, as well as delving deeper into the political and cultural undertones of their songs.

Simon Price plays nothing but The Cure from start to finish. Book a table and get involved.

We host a launch event for SONLIFE’s album, out on Chris Coco's record label. SONLIFE is an eight track LP that spans genres from Downtempo to Jazz, and is an amalgamation of live instrumentation, field recordings and samples. A lot of the tracks on the album started out as very simple ideas; repetitive, single, distorted loops - “very odd and rough ideas conjured up in the middle of the night in my early twenties”.

He originally imagined the project being an experimental solo project in 2015, trying out new sounds and genres. The tracks were back under wraps for a few years when he took a break from making music, and when he returned, they were all reimagined with a brand new life.

The album has heavy influences from the likes of Massive Attack, “Black Sands”-era Bonobo, Portico Quartet and the more dance orientated musicians such as Overmono and Mount Kimbie. Join us for a full album playback and DJ set.

From the Royal Albert Hall to Spiritland... our friend Matthew Halsall celebrates his new album ‘An Ever Changing View’ with a tour of some of his favourite audiophile venues including NAM, Kasheme, Rush Hour - and our place.

Matthew Halsall is a trumpeter, producer and composer who is redefining spiritual jazz for the next generation.

Over the course of nine albums, numerous accolades and his taste-making label, Gondwana Records, he’s become a vital voice in UK music with his lithe, limitless blend of jazz and deeply meditative influences that’s in tune with the natural world. His thoughtful and refined style draws on the foundations laid by greats like Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, but adds the sample-fuelled electronica that he first heard in clubs, as well as global percussive influences and his signature – what you might call – sparkle.

His landmark album ‘An Ever Changing View’ is an expansive, immaculately conceived project which presents Halsall’s signature blend of jazz, electronica, global and spiritual jazz influences. Booking is essential for this one.
