Jon Marsh (The Beloved)

- Balearic
- Eclectic
- Electronica
Jon Marsh recorded and released music as The Beloved from Peel Session beginnings in 1985 until the release of 'X' in 1996. The project has been cryogenically frozen since then but is beginning to thaw, the catalogue having finally been prised from corporate clutches. Every mix of every track is currently being assembled and prepared for an internet rebirth, plus new material.
From 1992-2005 Jon regularly DJed all over the UK & Europe, plus the USA & Australia. He held monthly residencies at MOS and Fabric, as well as recurring bookings at mainstream and underground house clubs.
Parenthood curtailed the DJ work, but he occasionally resurfaces wielding his take on balearic: "Think eclectic style not flamenco somnambulists".
Jon's return to Spiritland will offer a scenic route through the unconventional.

An Evening with Dennis Bovell MBE
16/06/2021 JOY
- Reggae/Dub
- Talks
Barbados-born Dennis Bovell is Britain’s greatest ever reggae producer. Moving to the UK as a 12-year-old, by the time he became a teenager he was already heavily involved in the London music scene. As a musician he was experimenting with loops and also the use of sound frequencies in the cutting room, as well as running various bands and sound systems. His first significant group, Matumbi patented a unique reggae sound.
Bovell was instrumental in a new British reggae sound, Lovers Rock and delivered a timeless hit for Janet Kay with Silly Games. His work as a producer brought him to the attention of dub-mad acts like all-girl group, The Slits, for whom he produced two albums, as well as working with the Pop Group, Madness, Orange Juice as well as a long-term relationship with dub-poet Linton Kwesi Johnson.
He still tours, plays regularly and recently appeared in a memorable role in Steve McQueen’s film ‘Lover’s Rock’.
Tickets are £20 and early booking is advised.

Roberta Reachout
16/06/2021 KC
- Eclectic
- Jazz/Funk/Soul
Roberta is a long time heavy music head originally from Bari, Puglia living in London for 30 years.
Adopting herself to the Talking Loud events at Dingwalls, and then later Bar Rumba's ‘That’s How It Is’ and the Straight No Chaser magazine family she soon became a well connected link between Italy and the 90’s underground London scene and all its trends.
As a Straight No Chaser scribbler, correspondent for Acid Jazz magazine and RadioItaliaNetwork, Roberta went on living her dream in London for being the place where music has always been happening and the club scene has always been strong in terms of legacies.
This to mention the later merging of another extremely important music fam into Roberta’s life as a digger as this one came via professor-friend-dancer-writer Tim Lawrence (thank you Tim! for introducing her to David Mancuso (RIP) and the Lucky Cloud Sound System and for inviting her to join the party set-up volunteers group).
In recent years, together with organising unique multimedia Arts crossover events-parties for selected clients/festivals in Italy, the ultimate leitmotif of her search has been reaching out to people to open up for new directions hence the never forgotten purpose of wanting to be a radio broadcaster-music selector that plays music with a message hence her new acclaimed name as a dj-selector as Roberta ReachOut.
Currently on air monthly on Totally Wired Radio (ReachOut Sound Emporium), it’s an incredible joy watching her spinning (Bookclub, The Seveney, The Horse & Groom): being such a natural happy dancer with complete devotion to music, spinning has just become second nature to Roberta as for the first time she has the challenge to be playing a long set which means there will be #moremusic as she always reminds, old friends Norman Jay MBE or Gilles Peterson, at the end of an email.
