Starting out behind two turntables at the age of 14, our man Michael Davies is a serial crate digger and DJ with a passion for remarkable music. He enjoys nothing more than genre-spanning marathon sets, with records played from all across the globe.

The Spiritland Selector is back for another rare groove filled affair – expect anything from deep soul to free jazz – and especially if the word 'love' features in the title. This time, he's joined by the esteemed Tom Blip.

Via his globally influenced label, Blip Discs, Tom Blip's debut record 'Wrong Guanco' spent a large part of 2015 providing everyone from Bonobo to Joy Orbison with their peak time drum workout at sets across the world. The eclecticism of this musical imprint gives somewhat of a hint of his wide tastes as a selector, and has rightfully put the young DJ on the map.

Tone B. Nimble

  • Jazz/Funk/Soul

Anthony Fields AKA Tone B. Nimble, has been a vital entity on the music scene for over 30 years. His calling started in the mid-1980’s as a DJ spinning House, Disco, and Italo in Chicago’s flourishing underground scene.

In 2011, Tone started Al-Tone Edits with partner Al Bumz, a disco edit label devoted to featuring lesser known Soul, Disco, and Gospel tunes with support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Detroit Swindle, Sadar Bahar, Hunee and many others.

Al-Tone Edits is regarded as a label for Disco savants. Nine volumes deep, Al-Tone Edits continues to grow in exposure, while opening doors for the duo. More recently Tone is building a the “Soul Is My Salvation” brand. Including the continuation of the cassette series, releasing official Gospel re-issues, and the launch of a gospel oriented event entitled “Rejoice”. Growing up in the black church, Tone always admired the skill level of the musicians that backed the choirs and incredible vocalists that go virtually unknown.

Lost in music and neck deep in the world of records, Jeremy caught the bug during the late 90s in his native Wellington, NZ. Following a move to London in 2000, he spent the next ten years loitering in Soho’s record stores, DJing at East End parties and running with local music crews, this left an indelible mark.

A move to Melbourne in 2000 and a partnership with Jamie Bennett lead to the birth of Crown Ruler’s online record store. Showcasing his expansive musical knowledge and knack for trawling forgotten music from across the globe, the unearthing and celebration of music goes deep. It has lead him to consult on a number of acclaimed reissues, curate and source records for a wide variety of local and international clients and launch the Crown Ruler record label. This all culminated in 2017’s Crown Ruler SoundCompilation for London based label, Space Talk. In 2018 Jeremy’s hard work and keen ear saw him start work for Soundway records, working alongside label boss Miles Cleret curating and licensing releases for the esteemed London based label.

A former broadcaster for Melbourne’s PBS 106.7fm and playing events with the likes of Larry Heard, Theo Parrish, ESG, Greg Wilson, Horse Meat Disco, Idjut Boys, Awesome Tapes From Africa and more, Jeremy’s musical gauge is set directly to the heart, head and ears. Expect his genre bending sets to have no rules, you’ll hear the unheard and obscure right next to stone cold classics.

Funk loving good for nothing nerd making house music and the like.

A self-confessed nerd and 'slave to the funk', Harry was raised on a diet of 'Gang Starr, St Germain, all things Ninja Tune and drum & bass' and there aren't many styles of music that he hasn't dabbled with this past decade.

Having found his feet amongst the deeper echelons of house music, 2012 saw Harry's seminal remix of Ben Pearce's crossover hit 'What I Might Do' smashed out in clubs all over the world. DJ sets across the UK and mainland Europe ensued with remixes and EPs going out on the likes of Strictly Rhythm, Island Records, Dirt Crew and OUTPLAY

In recent times Harry's more sample-focused fusion of house music with his deeper seated influences in hip hop, jazz, soul and funk has found its way onto records for the likes of House of Disco and Dirt Crew Recordings... and into the record bags of Laurent Garnier, Danny Tenaglia, Karizma, Seven Davis Jr and Jimpster to name but a few.

As a business owner he runs Cafe Artum, a cafe, deli and record store that's become one of the most vibrant spots in Birmingham – a space full of ideas, lectures, unique in-store DJ sessions and workshops.

In Colin's words – "when you consider how fast the DJing world is moving these days, 50 years in the game is a ludicrous thing to contemplate".

Having lived, danced and DJed through the eras of Northern Soul, jazz-funk and house, few can claim to have contributed to UK dance music more than Colin Curtis.

Growing up in Stoke on Motown and Radio Caroline, Colin first started DJing in 1967 and became a figurehead for some of Northern England’s most iconic clubs, including the Blackpool Mecca, Rafters in Manchester and Nottingham’s Rock City.

His experiments with electro and house, alongside Hewan Clarke at The Playpen in Manchester also had a profound impact on the musical direction of the Haçienda. These days his career is viewed with similar superlatives as Mancuso, which we discuss in the below, alongside a look into his life as a record collector and the new jazz dance fusion compilation he’s curated for Z Records.
