- Jazz/Funk/Soul
Ket Shah has been instrumental in the set-up and success of the DJ collective and long standing promotional outfit Mucho Soul alongside Alan Kenny Arscott (DJ A.K.A) since its original inception way back in 2001.
Their original music policy was to encompass a style with a strong emphasis on Soul to but that soon developed to include a more varied and eclectic array of black influenced dance music ranging from Jazz, Disco, Reggae, Funk, and House right through to the very best in fresh Electronica.
Since those early days at the turn of the new millennium, Mucho Soul have gone on to appear and guest at various high profile events including: the Inspiracion Festival Tenerife in 2009 alongside Gilles Peterson, Rainer Truby and Simbad, The Sunsplash Antalyar Turkey 2010 Festival with Norman Jay, Phil Asher and Jamie Liddell and The Southport Weekender 50th Anniversary in 2014 with Chaka Khan, Archie Bell & The Drells, Kerri Chandler and Carl Cox.
During 2014 Mucho Soul were also regular guests at
the Deep Into Soul Terrace Parties with DJ Spinna, Paul Trouble Anderson and Rhemi and The Native Soul Parties with Deep House heroes Osunlade, Culoe De Song and Grant Nelson. In the Summer of 2014 Ket and Al also put together a series of “Soul On The South Bank” specials which featured live appearances from Nathan Haines, Vanessa Freeman and DaLata with guest DJ’s Dr Bob Jones and Patrick Forge.

Spiritland Legends: Soulquarians with Stephen Titmus
09/02/2022 KC
- Hip Hop
- Jazz/Funk/Soul
Even if you don’t recognise the ‘Soulquarians’ name, you’ll almost certainly be familiar with the people involved: D’Angelo, Questlove, and J Dilla were all founding members of the hip hop-informed neo-soul collective, with artists like Erykah Badu, Q-Tip, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and more later joining their ranks.
The Soulquarians were known for their intense collaborations, technically ambitious music, and their progressive, good-natured lyricism. They also played a wealth of instruments, gravitating away from the sample-heavy sound of late 90s hip hop in favour of the intricate melodies, dynamics, and rich textures of live instrumentation.
Stephen Titmus joins us for the evening, Playing music from the collective behind some of the best Hip Hop and Soul of the late ‘90’s and early ‘00s.

Will Fox

- Jazz/Funk/Soul
- Library Music
As a longstanding staff member of Soul Brother Records, it should come as no surprise that Will Fox has had an unfettered access to a continued stream of Soul, Funk, Jazz, Rare-Groove, Two Step and Disco for as long as he can remember.
The shop has become a pivotal factor in his musical education and influence, a musical trove in which he continues to unearth dusty rarities from its vaults. Will has been reissuing music on vinyl for a number of years, working closely with Ralph Tee of Expansion Records where he brought to life the 2017 reissue of Keep The Fire Burning by Gwen McCrae, alongside Bobbi Humphrey’s Baby Don’t You Know, The Warriors’ What’s My Destination and the Soul Brother Records reissue of Chet Ivey’s Deep-Funk classic A Dose Of Soul.
As a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, bass, percussion), arranger, producer and compiler, Will tends to err towards the soulful spectrum of music, particularly angling towards Jazz and its various permutations, but is unafraid to blend the hyper-melodic textures of Jazz with the deeper and more rhythmically truncated sounds of electronic music, drawing upon previous experiences of having studied in Berlin and Bristol. Will’s most recent compilation album—released with Dave Lee (FKA Joey Negro) on Z Records called Breaking the Beats—speaks to this musical ethos, a personal compilation of West London Broken Beat, straddling the gap gap between electronic music and Jazz.
Currently, Will is working on a solo project with Cinematic Orchestra Lead Vocalist Heidi Vogel with a distinct Latin feel, an area of music that he feels comfortable experimenting with and a particular wellspring of musical influence for him—from the polyrhythms of Cuban and Nuyorican Salsa to the frenetic Jazz-Dance of Brazilian Samba. He is also working on a new reissue project with Motherlode Music, a fledgling label reissuing rare and often unissued Soul and Jazz.

Tom Blip

Tom Blip runs the vibrant Blip Discs imprint which has steered a consistently impressive path through bass music, house and traditional African sounds since its inception in 2015. His latest release was voted amongst the top 50 Fact Mag singles of the year in 2019 and the young producer has plenty more hotly tipped releases cooking for 2020. His remix for ‘Heyyeh’ by Penya (due out January via On The Corner) has already been exciting dance floors and track ID groups alike with plenty more originals on the way for the latter half of the year. As a DJ, his sets are often just as far reaching and unpredictable as his label which should keep absolutely any music head on their toes.
