Spiritland Screen: Saturday Night Fever
'Where do you go when the party is over...?' November's partnership with Everyman Cinema kicks us into party gear. Grittier than you remember it, this is the straight, Brooklyn end of disco, based on an article by Nick Cohn for New York magazine. John Travolta became an icon as Tony Manero, and disco mutated once more.
We'll be screening the original R-Rated release.

Richard Spaven – ‘Real Time’ album playback and Jazz re:freshed DJs
Being devotees of drummer-led productions, we're delighted to hold a special evening in the company of Richard Spaven (drummer for Flying Lotus, Jose James, Cinematic Orchestra...) to celebrate the release of 'Real Time', his new studio album.
First single 'Faded' featuring acclaimed vocalist Jordan Rakei, out 5th of October, was 'Sunriser' recently on 6 Music and has already received praise from across the board.
Richard's uniquely subtle take on drumming and "the way he plays like a wild flower grows" (Mary Anne Hobbs / 6 Music Recommends), has made him a sought-after performer with successful global artists and at drum events and festivals worldwide.
DJ support before and after the full album playback on the Spiritland sound system will come from Jazz re:freshed.
Educated by everything from Klaus Wunderlich and Jim Reeves, via Motown, hairy rock and disco, to D-Train and Anita Baker from his family’s large record collection, Ian Wade found his tastes favouring electronic music upon first hearing I Feel Love in 1977, which pretty much shaped his mindset from there.
With a comprehensive career as a writer for various (and many deceased) titles across music and TV, Ian occasionally turns his hand to PR, makes music under the name Blood Everywhere and compiles playlists for Wadey’s Disco Kitchen.

Join us in King's Cross for the world premiere of a triple album of unreleased solo electronic music from Jónsi of Sigur Rós, in advance of its official release.

Born in NYC, Black Sifichi spent his early youth moving between there and Glasgow. After having studied with Stella Adler and Ann Raychel, he began performing as an actor in New York's downtown theatre scene.
After seeing The Clash at NY's Palladium and later at Bond's, his attitude toward music and his social vision was radically transformed. In 1982 he left New York to live in London where he met Phil Von of the group Von Magnet. With Steve Weymouth and Anthony Becker they created a 'multimedia' physical slide show for Von Magnet's savage and spectacular performances. Sifichi became the photographer for the group – his photos were used for the artwork of 'El Sexo Surrealista' and the recent double DVD Von Magnet 1983-2013.
Black Sifichi brings with him a whole library of deep ambient music accompanied by his signature spoken word.
